Public holiday supermarket opening hours in May – Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury’s and more
The holiday will be Monday, May 31 – it is known as the spring holiday, and also falls around the time of Pentecost.
Many may be considering calling up friends for a barbecue, but can you still go shopping and stock up on hamburger buns and beer bottles?
Here’s when Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Argos will be open over the bank holiday weekend.
Tesco public holiday opening hours 2021
Whether you spend the weekend relaxing on the sofa or entertaining friends, you may need to make a pit stop at your local supermarket.
Fortunately, Tesco will be open on public holidays on Monday.
Many stores will be open at their usual hours, which may vary from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. or midnight.
However, opening hours vary from store to store, so customers are advised to visit the Tesco store locator online to check their local store.
Sainsburys holiday opening hours
Sainsbury’s department stores will also be open for your holiday needs.
The hours should be:
- Saturday May 29: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
- Sunday May 30: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Monday May 31: 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Smaller Locals of Sainsbury’s will be open at different times and other store hours may vary. check your nearest stores online.
Morrisons opening hours
Morrisons is expected to be open as usual on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On Sundays, shorter hours will apply, with stores open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
However, the opening hours for public holidays are changed slightly on Mondays: while shops will open at 7 a.m., most will close an hour earlier than usual at 8 p.m.

Waitrose opening hours
Hours of operation will change at some Waitrose branches on Bank Holiday Mondays, so be sure to take note before you go for barbecue supplies.
Stores will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, with regular hours in effect on weekends.
On Saturdays, shops are generally open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
M&S opening hours
Most M&S branches will not see changes to their hours of operation, but be sure to check your local store’s hours of operation here.
On Saturday May 29, the M&S boutiques will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. as usual.
Sunday May 30 has slightly shorter hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Bank holiday Monday sees the return of normal weekday hours – also open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
