Niles library sets story time | News, Sports, Jobs
PETE THE CAT: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host a Pete the Cat Story Time Thursday at 11 a.m. at StoryWalk in Stevens Park. The event is sponsored by the Niles Library and Parks Department. Participants will walk and read the story “Pete the cat: I like my white shoes“ by Eric Litwin. There will be a chance to greet and take photos with Pete the Cat. The library will also have a table to register clients for the summer reading challenge.
There will be a virtual concert with Mr. Eric, the original author of Pete the Cat Books. The library received a grant to support this special event at 6 p.m. on July 28. The concert is supported by the State Library of Ohio with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

FREE POND EVENT: The Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will host a Pond Q&A on Monday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Davis Kener Education Pavilion in the Education Center Trumbull County Farm and Family Farm, 520 W. Main St. Cortland. District staff set up and installed a wind-powered aeration system. Participants will have the chance to see the system in action. The program is free. FAIR BOARD SEEKS ENTRIES: The 35th Annual Trumbull Retired Teachers Spelling Contest will be held July 15 at 1 p.m. on the Historic Stage at Trumbull County Fairgrounds. Free entry to pre-recorded spellings is offered. All spellings will receive a bag of goodies and a certificate of attendance. Students from grades 1 to 8 can compete. To pre-register, call Denise at 330-530-4011 before Friday.
CHECKERS TOURNAMENT: The John Pete Kids Checkers Tournament will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Woodland Park pavilion at McDonald’s. Registration is required and will begin at 9:30 am Children can compete for prizes.
FAIR BOARD ENTRIES: The Trumbull County Fair Board of Trustees is seeking entries for open class departments in various categories, including Culinary Arts, Home Arts, Needle Crafts, Photography fine arts and others. YOGA PROGRAM: Grace United Methodist Church, 1725 Drexel Ave. NW, will offer yoga classes for all from 6.30 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program is open to everyone. Classes are donate what you wish to donate with a cap of $ 5. Participants can attend either day or both days. Floor mats and disinfected equipment are provided but participants can bring their own if they wish.
SIP AND PAINT: A Sip and Paint event is taking place today at Woodland Cellars in Liberty to help Megan Schellhorn and her family as she was diagnosed with cancer. Schellhorn is a video production teacher and directory consultant at Hubbard High School. There will also be a raffle of baskets to help generate funds to help the family.
