Morrisons cut prices on 500 items, including own-brand eggs and nappies
Morrisons has cut prices on hundreds of products, including essentials like eggs, beef and nappies. This comes as the cost of living is skyrocketing for many households. The supermarket lowers the prices of chilled, frozen and pantry foods, meat and cereals.
It will represent 6% of its total sales volume. Shoppers continue to shift to own-brand products, but the cost of groceries is 5.2% higher than the same time last year, Kantar, a data analytics firm . Morrisons chief executive David Potts told PA the cuts will make a big difference to customers.
He said: “We know that our customers are under real financial pressure right now and we want to play our part in helping them with the cost of rides. These price cuts will have a noticeable and long-term impact on the budgets of our customers and demonstrate our commitment to providing them with the best possible value.

Essential items will be reduced. For example, a pack of 30 own brand eggs is usually £3.40 but after the cuts will cost just £2.99. A pack of paracetamol now costs just 29p, down from 65p. Price reductions will be spread across most areas of the supermarket.
In the meat aisle, shoppers can now pick up a 430g pack of Morrisons British diced beef for £3.99 when it previously cost £3.59. A pack of 33 Nutmeg-branded nappies now costs £1.29, down from the original cost of £1.40. There are also promotions throughout the store.
Over 180 additional products will be offered such as ‘buy two for £1.80’ on cereal. Shoppers can also ‘buy two for £3’ on breaded chicken and ready meals are ‘buy two for £5’. Morrisons and Asda have recently been hit hard by customers spending less.
Kantar said Morrisons had seen sales fall 11.5% over the past three years.
