Lottery winner calls to claim £ 1,000 scratch card only to find out she won £ 300,000
A woman who called the National Lottery to claim £ 1,000 whom she thought she had won with a scratch card found out that she had actually won the jackpot of £ 300,000.
Sandra Devine from Renfrewshire in Scotland believed she had won £ 1,000 and the post office advised her to call the National Lottery to claim her prize as they could not pay it.
But when Sandra, 37, called Camelot, who runs the lottery, she received startling news that her scratch card scoop was a lot bigger than she thought.
Speaking to LADbible, she said: “When the lady from Camelot said, ‘Are you sitting down? You’ve won the £ 300,000 jackpot, “I just couldn’t believe it.
“I couldn’t speak as my husband and youngest son jumped into the living room.
“Neither of us noticed the two squares we missed until we were told we won the jackpot, and the lady said, ‘See you won it? And when we looked we noticed that we were missing a few C.s.
Sandra had planned to celebrate her husband Martin’s birthday at a restaurant, but it was full, so the couple decided to grab a few beers and buy some scratch cards.
The couple were initially thrilled to find out that they appeared to have won £ 1,000 on one of their cards, but were shocked and delighted to find that their winnings were much larger than they thought.
Now Sandra said the victory changed her life and that of her family, revealing that they had since bought a car with the winnings and are now hoping to buy a bigger house.
But despite the excitement, Sandra insists the victory hasn’t changed them, adding that “we are still the same people we were before”.
