He says sales total $2 million so far
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says his latest financial venture is seemingly inevitable: a new fragrance tied to his name, “Burnt Hair.”
Billionaire Musk, the world’s richest man according to Forbes, announced his latest investment in the perfume industry on Tuesday and said he sold 10,000 bottles of his branded perfume in six hours. At $100 a bottle, the product quickly made $1 million, according to the company. Then late Wednesday, Musk announced that he had sold another 10,000 for a total of 20,000 – $2 million.
Musk has made a habit, often through his company The Boring Company, of turning sarcastic products into lucrative commodities. He branded this scent to smell like “loathsome desire” and changed his Twitter bio title to the “perfume seller”.
Elon Musk could finally buy Twitter:Twitter says it intends to sell for $54.20 per share
On his website promoting the fragrance, Musk touts “Burnt Hair” as “like leaning over a candle at the table, but without all the hard work.” Another marketing slogan: “Stand out in the crowd! Get noticed by walking through the airport.”
“With a name like mine, stepping into the perfume world was inevitable – why did I fight it for so long!?” Musk tweeted. “Please buy my perfume, so I can buy Twitter.”
Earlier this year, Musk agreed to buy Twitter for $44 billion, but then submitted a letter terminating the deal, sparking lawsuits between the two parties. Musk recently decided to go ahead with the purchase.
