Àcheval RTW Spring 2022
Sofia Achaval de Montaigu and Lucila Sperber wrote a love letter to Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, who died in 2020, in a collection that once again explores the dress codes of their homeland. Traditional riding outfits and the national passion for football are distilled in a tomboy wardrobe shot in the city of Buenos Aires. The duo are also launching the brand’s first fragrance, a spicy, amber concoction meant to smell like a ride in the pampas and created in collaboration with independent French perfume house Bon Parfumeur.
The look: “Real gauchos from Argentina”, by which the pair intends to juxtapose elements taken from the traditional lifestyle of the rider and the countryside with, for example, a souvenir t-shirt from the young years of Maradona at the Boca sports club Junior, for a realistic and global take on Argentinian heritage.

Quote to note: “It is about destroying the image of an equestrian lifestyle reserved for the elites, because in Argentina, many people go to work on horseback. Even children go to school on horseback. [Riding a horse] is as common as cycling, ”Sperber said.
Highlights: A hooded trench coat with patch pockets and gold buttons; a backless dress inspired by an apron worn by Sperber’s grandmother; pants that can be removed at the knee, like those used for hiking; a short A-line dress in cotton poplin and lace and a simple but effective tiered maxi dress. Football fans may want to purchase one of the number 10 embroidered t-shirts, as a subtle nod to Maradona’s player stance, in colourways to salute his jerseys.
To take with: Like most this season, the Àcheval duo have carved out their own identity and functionality as a form of elegance. Their take was made all the more charming by being made with partners empowering women in local communities in Argentina.
